On the agenda!
November 24th, 2008
Apologies for being away for several days. I really should invest in a laptop. Anyways, I just finished catching up on the suggestions thread and here’s what’s on my agenda so far.
- Wednesday’s update, first and foremost of course.
- Writing up a detailed reportback on the con.
- Finalizing a much better banner and background.
- Setting up a forum, store, and archive page (many thanks to Frumph!)
- Setting up the new ETD book and related merchandise.
- Actually getting around to doing free wallpapers of all our major characters
- Getting up the character descriptions on the cast page
- The About page needs stuff
- The comic navigation needs work too.
- Phase out the old Comicgenesis site. (end of an era…)
Any more things I might’ve missed, feel free to post a comment and yes, I do read, consider, and value everything submitted, even if I can’t quickly respond due to obligations. Many thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding as we enter this new stage in ETD’s life.

After you’ve done the most important bits first (strip, post-con report) I’d say that getting the archives and forum up and running and then the shop. Probably keep the forum nice and simple first of all and then expand once you’re all established.

That reminds me. I should make a custom skin for the new forum.

1. Going to pay for a vBulletin forum?
2. Yay wallpapers.
3. Not going to have the same chapter banner from the Cgenesis site?
4. Yay comic books. How much did the last one cost? And how soon is that going to happen?
November 24th, 2008 at 5:52 PM
Also, your feed is kinda… Not working. I think I’m doing it wrong though.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:54 PM
1. I think you can set up a wordpress-based forum, least that’s what the plug-in is advertising.
2. Wallpapers will take a bit to get to, but they promise to be the best you’ll see anywhere.
3. That old banner doesn’t do my current skills any justice. Yup.
4. The last one cost 8. Price is going up to 12, but only because more pages are being offered to compete with the thickest 12 dollar manga you can find.

I’ll look into the feed a bit later.

Manga Blahzey blahzey blahzey. I was thinking western style comic pages (for each chapt.) If it gets downsized to Manga book sized (ref. Battle Royale) wouldn’t it make the text too small and the details too small to make out?
And the the whole large banner being the first thing you see was pretty cool. You going to draw it over?

As deficient and played-out manga is in some respects, one of its strengths is the compact format. I’d rather stick a bunch of chapters in one convenient, easy to carry novel rather than split them up into several larger books. That option would make more sense if ETD was in color, but even then, I’d still lump ‘em together, though I’d have to charge something like 20 for a large color graphic novel. ETD used to be printed on novel scale and the resolution on the details and text was still pretty good.

Quick status update for all: I’m working on the next update and the new site background and header. The header will be a placeholder for now as I’m close to wrapping chapter 8 and it makes little sense to put so much effort into something that will only be relevant for 20 more pages.

Dude, I’d buy each chapter for $10 if I saw them in a store… >.> More power to you though. The only place I’d see those in Jamaica though are in an Airport, still. =\
But I’ll buy whatever you choose to do.

I think a smaller sized book would be good, one of the reasons why I like smaller sized graphical novels is the portability factor. In the end, if you get really successful, you can release the bigger version in a fancy, fancy hardback cover.

I’d offer my skills in terms of site design, but I was really hoping I’ve phased that out of my life. Sorry for not stepping up and helping you out at least with the forum skin. I feel indirectly guilty.

I’m seriously considering starting color pages in Chapter 9 so it might be an option to allow a nice larger book format in future iterations.
I work in IT so I think I can manage the site design. The only real issue is that it cuts into production time on the pages.

I could help by being a snooty, British upper class twit, what?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:19 AM
I can see what you mean about using Wordpress as a forum as there are several wordpress themes out there that support that feature. Can you set forum theme for one page? Maybe as a template?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
Personally, I’m a sucker for old school British foppery. I might want to introduce some of that in my webcomic. I got a link from Frumph for a forum plugin. I’ll play around with it on the weekend.
November 25th, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Max out the foppery mate, you know you want to
. Re-watch “Monte Carlo or Bust!” if you have to!
“My god, this man’s Britishness is at…twelve!”
“But sir! The reading device only goes up to ten!!!”

Oooh, quick question: are you still going with Lulu for the next book, or have there been changes afoot that I have temporarily forgotten or even missed?
November 25th, 2008 at 5:57 PM
@pressyuk: Never seen it and now I REALLY wanna see it.
@wbf: I’m most likely using KaBlam for the new book, though I’ll definitely reevaluate the Lulu option.

The film is one of those classic silly films from the 1960s but it has loads of those upper class English Actors who used to be in all those Ealing Studios films from the 1930s, 40s and 50s.

I checked the Wiki last night. Hopefully there’s a torrent around. Update coming tonight!
November 26th, 2008 at 11:19 PM

November 26th, 2008 at 11:55 PM
Sorry folks, pushing it up to early morning. Again, in case you haven’t heard, I lost my wallet yesterday, spent half a day looking for it and an hour canceling all the docs in it. Comic’s half-inked now and will be appearing in the morning. Going to bed. Please stay tuned, much fun and carnage awaits!
November 27th, 2008 at 12:29 AM
oof >.< sorry to hear. That, and can relate. Good luck, man.
November 27th, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Comic updated! Sorry for the lateness folks. I’m getting the jump on the next update Saturday. Happy Turkey Day to my fellow Staters!
November 27th, 2008 at 8:42 PM
Dang man, that sucks.
November 27th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
Happy Turkey Day and hope you get your wallet sorted out and what not!
November 28th, 2008 at 9:53 AM
Big thanks! Happy Turkey Day everyone! New page up. 2x update next week. I’m getting the jump on Saturday with the pencils. Btw, found a torrent for Monte Carlo or Bust. DUDLEY MOORE!!! I’ve never seen him that young. I only remember him from the Arthur movies. Apparently he was always a bit of a dwarf. XD
November 29th, 2008 at 8:37 PM
Yeah, the bad guy English bloke, he’s one of those famous English actors from the 1940s and 50s and starred in loads of Ealing Comedies. He’s awesome.
November 30th, 2008 at 10:13 AM
*jawdrop* I -LIKE- the new look here!
November 30th, 2008 at 10:13 AM

November 30th, 2008 at 5:22 PM
@pressyuk: I’d have to take a second look while I work. He was pretty funny, if despicable.
